My best tip: just plant the darn thing! You'll never learn anything about the plant if you don't stick it in the ground. If it doesn't like where you put it, it will let you know!
I love my veggie garden, and adore people who can make sensible chaos and create those lovely cottage gardens that actually look like a house grew out of a field of flowers.
